EPL Week 1 Reflections

Frank Lampard (12.5): Chelsea's new "diamond" mid-field formation looks confused at the moment. Ancelotti has got to get them a little more organized. Chelsea did well getting the ball forward to Drogba and Anelka on the break, but were completely congested when bringing the ball up the middle. This takes Lampard out of the equation. If they can stretch the field out more, and I think they will, they will be incredibly dangerous.

Didier Drogba (10.5) was in top form and will be worth picking up if you have cash to spare. He seems to be the focus of their attack, rather than Anelka.

Stephen Hunt (5): made Hull's manager Phil Brown look like a genius. After a disappointing transfer season in which nearly all their targets went elsewhere, Brown bought Hunt just a week ago and he led HC's attack until he was subbed in the 70th minute, not to mention that he scored their goal.

Carlos Tevez (8.5)starts on the bench for Man City = hilarious. We (Man U) didn't treat him well by any stretch, but the way he talked smack, makes me laugh that he's on the other side of the city, wearing a different color, but still riding the pine. Awesome.

Emmanuel Adebayor (10): his finish was first class for Man City and suggests that, now happy to be the point man on a team he believes will win, he'll score 15+ goals again.

Wigan's defense looked great against Aston Villa, completely shutting down Ashley Young and James Milner. Any Wigan defender looks a good, cheap pick-up (4.5-5.5).

Hugo Rodallega (6.5): looked pretty good for Wigan, although I don't know how consistent he will be.

Cesc Fabregas (10.5): scored the most points of any player this week and was hugely impressive, as was Robin van Persie, for Arsenal.

I'm not sure about Fulham yet. Their defense looked good against Portsmouth, but Pompey are really terrible this year. Brede Hangeland (5.5) is your best bet defender and Clint Dempsey (6.5), call me a Homer, will score 10+ goals this year. Bobby Zamora (5.5) looks like he's showing up this year finally.

Wayne Rooney is a must have for a high value striker. With him lives and dies Manchester United's season. You will not regret spending 11 on him.

Liverpool did not look good against a pretty weak opponent. The only thing that saved them was how ineffective Tottenham's Robbie Keane (8.5) is. Stay away from him. Leave Liverpool's defense along too. There is no telling who will be injured next week after their rugby match on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard (12.5), much like Lampard for Chelsea, was pretty ineffectual today as well. The only saving grace was that he takes penalty kicks. I'm keeping both him and Lampard for another week, but one of them might have to go if they don't get better production.

Remember that only 12 teams are playing in Week 2, so trade carefully.
